*Cue Pokemon evolving music...*
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The idea for Chester Creatives started after I watched “The True Cost” on Netflix. Have you seen it? It’s about fast fashion and waste and consumerism... so I quit fast fashion ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ No big deal, I didn’t like shopping anyway... (can you relate) ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ But then I started to look at the rest of the stuff I was buying.... plant pots, pans, stationery (so much stationery) and it didn’t matter how “green” the item appeared to be, I would pick it up and slowly turn it over and it would say... ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ “Made in China” ⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Every. Single. Time. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ And I thought... “well, why?” Why is everything from literally the other side of the world, I thought of the journey it took to get here. I thought about mass production and materials and it made my head spin again ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I thought I found the answer in Etsy! Good old lovely Etsy, but guess what, Etsy are world wide, and even after typing in your postcode, if you click twice in any direction you will end up on a product that comes from the US. At least that’s what kept happening to me. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ You have to be really specific too, you can’t just tell it to show you everything people make within a 50 miles radius... oh and no plastic packaging please and make sure everything is cruelty-free. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ So Chester Creatives stopped being an idea, and started to become a really specific site for a person who wants eco-friendly, local artists and creatives, sounds like a dream? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Here’s the punchline... the way I set it up, as a hosting platform just didn’t work. If you’re a creative, think about how long it takes to upload your wares, now multiply that by 35!
So it’s time for a fresh start, a new approach. ⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ChesterCreatives.com is now officially no longer a shop or a hosting platform.
We showcase local eco-creatives for free. No fees and no forms. Just local creatives making the world a little better and a little more cheerful.
Hope you enjoy,
